Lovely (rainy) Day

Yesterday was lovely, which is saying something given the steady rain and gusty winds. I spent the day running errands, and then took the dogs for a soggy walk. At 3 I picked up Sally at work and we joined some of her colleagues for a Thanksgiving brew at one of the zillion McMenamin's pubs in the area (North Broadway). Lovely!

Sally and I headed home via Ristretto Roasters, split some leftover pizza, and did some sink laundry. It really was a nice day. Of course, my enthusiasm is fueled by the awareness that the kids will be arriving sometime today. Huzzah!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

  1. oh, don't look at McMenamin's as a zillion pubs. They're all different in some way (some more than others). It's something I really do like about McMenamin's -- they try to make the experience similar yet still unique at their different restaurants.

That said, if you do want a more unique brewing experience, I heartily recommend Deschutes Brewery in the Pearl District and Full Sail out in Hood River. Both good food and good brews. Deschutes has some lovely cask beers.

  2. Don't get me wrong. We are McMenamin fans. However, when told Sal's mates were gathering at McMenamins after work it was quite a question which one was intended. And though the Grand Lodge, Kennedy School and others are wonders in their own right, the location in Clackamas, the one near us in Vancouver and the one we frequented on Broadway are considerably less unique. Suburban strip malls are pretty much suburban strip malls, whatever the businesses located there.
